n de Amsterdamse Waterleidingduinen kun je volop genieten van rust en ruimte. Het gebied is alleen bestemd voor wandelaars en je mag naast de aangelegde paden erbuiten wandelen. Het gebied is 3400 ha groot (5 km breed en 10 km lang), en ligt tussen Zandvoort en Noordwijk. Hier wordt 2/3 van het drinkwater voor Amsterdam via een waterstelsel voorgezuiverd.
Vanaf de ingang namen we het grote pad het gebied in en kregen de tip van een medewerker van het gebied om bij de waterzuivering links af te slaan en de grote beek te volgen. Dit was een prachtige route naar het strand waarbij je het eerste uur dus geheel op een graspad lang de beek loopt. Het gebied is afwisselend, in hoogte en in vegetatie.
Tijdens de tocht zie je ongelofelijk veel damherten. Dichter bij de duinen lopen ook vossen rond die bijna straks langs je heenlopen als je rustig blijft staan.
Als je de middelste opgang naar het strand neemt zijn er in het najaar geen strandpaviljoens meer om even een tussenstop te maken. Zorg dus dat je daarom wel wat meeneemt om een eigen horeca-stop te creëren.
